eating at a restraunt like fridays or applebees - thats a big meal - a small meal would be a 1/2 sandwich and cup fo of - a large meal would be the whole sandwich & bowl of soup - or fries or chips - just a sandwich (moderate size like you make at home not the giant one youbuy at a deli) would be a small meal - 2 regular size bowl of cereal is a small meal - add strawberries or banana is ok - add toast & a melon with cereal is a big meal

If you're going by calories you could assume 1-2 big meals would be about 870 per meal for women and 1225 per meal for men. However having only two meals would make you have hunger pangs so you would be made to eat more per meal to make you satisfied for a day.

Example of Big meals:
6 eggs
4 pancakes
1 bowl of cereal
This would be a "large breakfast" and could include bacons, sausage, etc
3 bowls of rice
2 eggs
3 random toppins for rice
2 scoops of ice cream
The would be a "large dinner" and could vary from people to people.

However 3-5 small meals would be like
Small Meal 1:
2 waffles
1 egg
Small Meal 2:
1 Slice of pizza
1 soda
Small Meal 3:
1 Pack of instant noodle
Small Meal 4:
1 Bowl of rice w/stuff
Small Meal 5:
1 Desert selection
or
1 Fruit of your choice

But this is just my opinion

Small is typically a cup. Any portion in a restaurant is a BIG portion. It doesn't matters if you want to loose weight or just eat healthy, it's not just size, it's also what you eat. 5 apples are better than a very small slice of pizza...

small would be.. eating a cup of soup, a sandwich, small portion of noodles and sauce, a small bagel, a bowl of cereal.. all as individual meals
it is a good idea to at least understand how many calories are in something though.. that way you can get an idea of what is actually healthy.. and at what portion.. you would be surprised at how many calories can be in something like a small cookie

Easiest answer is to think about how much food you, personally, eat at one meal, that is a healthy serving size. (To be clear, one serving of meat is approximately the palm of your hand; not 8 oz or the length of your arm.)

Take that estimate and divide by two. That would be 'small'.

If you don't know how much food you should be eating in a day, check a trusted food guide, like these:

I've always been told that a small meal was about as big as your outstretched hand.
