would it help if i just asked why so many artistically gifted individuals have mental problems? this isn't directly related to savants although that could be a tangent point, i guess.

I believe in alot of cases there is solely because one thing that mental illness does in alot of people is make them more open and less selfconscious so they go after their ideas more easily because they don't second guess them.

yes because there has been a unseen connection between the two some geniuses have been said to have mental illness.because when one aspect of the brain has a lack of function then sometimes another will build on that to develop a stronger section but that to is only with training and therapy and these people that you describe all had this therapy or training.

I would say that Hitler is an example.
Then there's these kids with autism who aren't able to count
to 3, yet they can play Bach on the piano. And, they can do
it without reading a note or having a piano lesson.

there have been studies done. recently on tv that had a 20/20 about piano players and the talent they have at it, but can't even tie a shoelace or button a button. look it up.
