I'm curious as to times people finish a 5K and/or 10K race. This includes the winning times, times for people who are in very good shape all the way down to people that just run for fun.
I did sports in high school and college but just recently began running. I'm not too fast yet, I'm just very competitive and wonder what times other people have run.

the top runners in a 5K will finish in 12-15 minutes, but most people will feel good getting a time in the 20-25 minute range. Nearly anyone can finish in under an hour.
top 10K runners finish in under 30 minutes, but most average runners come in around 45-60 minutes.

I have run many races, and am competitive in my age group (40-44 presently). My typical 5K time is 20-21 minutes, which is slightly faster than seven minutes per mile. At 10K I fall off to 7:15s or 7:30s and usually hit the 43 or 44 minute mark.
If you check the website of your chosen event, it will usually have the prior year's results and you can check the winning times in your age group and overall. *In running, you can't really measure success with a stopwatch.*

I'm 48 and about 220lbs. My 5k times are around 27 minutes. I am shooting for 25 as a goal.

Im in a pretty good shape and can finish 10 K between 40 and 45 minutes, and 5 k in 15 - 20 minutes. All depends on weather conditions, time of day, etc.
I'd guess for a regular person it should be around 5 to 6 minutes per kilometer, so 25 to 30 minutes for 5 k, and 50 to 55 minutes for 10 k.
