I own a 1979 HZ Kingswood, and I need to replace the motor in it as the current motor has had it, but done over 400,000 Kms. It is a standard 202 motor. I was told by a friend that I could buy a new non-genuine 202 motor to put into the Kingswood, as he said it is possible to buy new non-genuine Holden 3.8L V8 and 5.0L V8's for Commodores. If so, how and where would I go about this?

Gem engines and Repco used to do them. In any event any engine reconditioner could supply you with an engine, check the yellow pages. That old red motor is still around for a while yet. Jules, auto tech and lecturer. Australia.

Like always it depends on the manufacturers specifications. When I worked in engineering, typically all the products that we created were interchangeable between 50HZ and 60HZ outlets. If you use a 50HZ motor on a 60HZ outlet, and the manufacturer specifies that you can't, you might just void the warranty if anything damages it. It might burn out, it might not. Depends on the specifications. Look all over the motor, it's usually written there. If it is not, then assume NO Also be careful of the voltage. 50HZ is usually run on 220V. Although there are some countries that use 50HZ 115V.
