I think that it is a matter of promotion. American Artists get more media time than God, and asian artists just don't get very much on charts outside their respective home countries, therefore nobodoy knows about them.

i have heard a few asian (Korean, Filipino, Japanese) artists and I think they try very hard to be a 'western' singer/performer. So when you hear them sing, for example, they sound like they are imitating a westerner.

Asian music is unique as well and a acquired taste - and requires some understanding of the language to get the full meaning of the song, for example.

Note, for example, Julio Iglesias. He was big in Spanish speaking countries/Europe.....until he started to cross-over a bit into English - BUT he always has kept his Spanish songs up front. He sold in his time zillions of records.

Now listen to IL DIVO (great group) and their albums and concerts sold out - but they combine languages for all public.

Yes, you are right, it is sad. However, the Asian world (combined) is so much larger in population than us westerners, that I wouldn't think that is a problem for them - is it?

this happened not only in music, but also in visual art.

A part of it is because the different cultural gap.
Some thing that cool in Asian Culture, aren't just cool enough for western culture (and vice versa).

A second one is a bit more taboo than what we would like to admit.
Entertainment world used to be very 'racy' (for the lack of better word). It took them many years to finally admit that African American are talented too. Good thing nowadays they are more open.. but for Asian, i think they still need more time to adjust.
(ALthough it's getting there).

hope that helps,
Sorry if i offend other people.. i'm just speaking the truth.

What's so sad about it? It's what consumers want, so that's what shows up in the charts. Commercialization is the name of the game.
