Without a dought back 100 years ago. They had more hardships but they had more respect for everything back then. We have it good now but maybe its too good. We tend to take everything forgranted. Back then was just a simpler time.

Spit the differance with you. I'll take the 40's or 50's.My Grandma and Great Granpa said it best in an interview in 1959. ( He was born in 1870) Today we have a lot more better roads than back in the 1880's. We have better schools, better ways to talk to one another and we can watch the 6 o'clock news to see what is going on. Mail service is faster so we can write friends and relatives. Better laws and less lawlessness( this was when it was un American NOT TO OWN A GUN for protection and you called the Law after the fact if business need taken care of right away. People regarde the Church and the school as a good gathering place to have lively conversation. And Politicians did what they were elected to do

100 years ago there were no antibiotics.
My mother was almost killed by an ear infection as a child. The infection had to be taken out by surgery, resulting in the loss of her left inner ear.
Her younger sister died of typhoid at 7. Her favorite aunt was killed by the 'Spanish Flu' at the age of 24.
They entertained themselves with sing-alongs because there was little popular entertainment. They all sat outside in the evenings to keep cool and visited back and forth with neighbors, sharing lemonade, ice cream, stories, etc. Kids ran through the neighborhood catching fireflies. The saved rainwater in cisterns to use in the yard to keep the well-water from going too low.

In the winter mornings the house was cold, and the father has to go to the cellar and add coal to the fire to warm the house. The whole town smelled full of coal smoke and the grit clung to the houses,
They had to move away from the town they were born in because the labor strikes were being put down by the military, and the strikers were shooting the 'scabs' that were being brought in on trains. It was too dangerous to live there.
The young people took the train to the state capital for the day for entertainment.

I would never place my children's health in danger to live in their time. And the only thing worse than being politically-correct is living when there was no such thing.

Actually 100 years ago was the year 1906, a long way from the
" Old West" eras.

The daily lifestyle and the quality of life was far superior 100 or so years ago than it is today.

I would say now because times such as the ones you mentioned were not as simple as they seem. You can't just be a cowboy roaming the range. Their were responsibilities that could not be avoided. If you lived in the Old West you couldn't just walk to the super market to buy milk. You had to milk your own cow every day. There is also the advent of medicine. In those times you could die from a simple case of diarhea. There was no Pepto Bismol in that era.

I prefer life today. It's easier and women have so many choices. And there are still places (small towns, out in the country) where one can live a very slow-paced lifestyle if one chooses to do so.

I love my life today. I'm only 19, so I can't really say that I liked a different time better, but I would love to live in like the 40s! I sort of think that love was real back then. Sure women didn't have as many rights, but love was so real. I think it would be worth it for me.

I like modern plumming and computers and stuff like answering these questions. 100 years ago the good ole days weren't so good. People didn't live so long. They worked hard and had to deal with some nasty diseases like tuberculosis and polio and diptheria etc. Actually I like 1970 the best!

Todays living is too fast paced, I think it would be fun to live in the olden days........don't think I could do it for very long though...but that's only because I know what we have available to us now that they didn't back then.
