for most women morning sickness stops around the third month. Some women have it all the way through.
the back pain can be pretty bad...it's a lot of extra weight to carry.
the feet swell when it gets big I think
it actually has just STOPPED pressing on the bladder, it starts low and then by the third month it is up above the pelvic bones, and eventually moves up to slightly above the belly button pressing on the ribs more and making it difficult to breath. a couple weeks before you give birth it drops again and will start pressing on the bladder again but it'll be easier to breath :-)

All these questions can be answered by the book What to Expect when you are Expecting but......
1. Morning sickness usually goes away around week 12-16 however , some women do not get it at all or keep it the entire time ( i did with all 3)
2. The back pain if it is bad at 3 months is not a good sign. It will be much worse . I had to sleep propped up with pillows (2nd child) from 20 weeks gestation on. Tell her make sure she is not sleeping on her back as that makes it worse and do not sit on couches they are bad for the back, use chairs.
3. Her feet may not swell especially if she drinks a lot of water. However if they do that wont happen until half way through the last trimester.
4. The baby will start pressing on her bladder in the third trimester and she should expect to be awakened by the call of nature every 1-3 hours. I think it is natures way of getting you ready to get up with a baby at night.
She should also be prepared for a very sore abdomen since it is her first baby. She will ligaments stretching and it can be quite painful. I had this with #1 but not 2 or 3.
Go Buy her the book at Wal Mart it's not that expensive and can answer almost any question she will think of.

All of those questions will be answered in time unfortuantely! Every pregnancy is different. With my first pregnancy I was sick in the early morning throughout the entire 9 months. I never really experienced any back pain, my feet never swelled, the pressing of the bladder was instant and then went away for a few months and then returned once I got bigger.
However with my second pregnancy I was sick 24/7 for 9 months, in and out of the hospital it got so bad. The back pain was incredible and I actually spent most of my pregnancy in physical therapy due to the pain. (Swimming really helps eleviate this pain, something to do with the fact that you are boiyant in water.) The only time my feet swelled up was on the 13 hour flight to Hawaii, and again the bladder/peeing thing was pretty constant!
Overall I had really rough pregnancies, none of my friends however experienced any of the crap I was dealing with. The pain is really not that bad and even if it does get bad it is SOOOOOOOO worth it in the end!! Goodluck honey!

Tell her to get the book, "What to Expect When You're Expecting." You can get it at the library or a thrift store (usually) if she can't buy it. It will answer all those questions. But from my experience. 1. Mornign sickness can last the whole pregnancy, but they say usually goes away after 3 months. I lucked out and didn't have it at all. 2. I had no back pain, until I tried to deliver my second baby without an epidural. (I highly recommend getting the epidural). A friend of mine had horrible back pain from 6 months on. 3. I never had foot swelling. My friend's feet started swelling at 7 months. 4. With my first son, I never had a feeling of the baby pressing on my bladder. With my second, it happened around 6 months. But I never had to get up at night. During the day, I had to go every 2 hours or so. A friend of mine had to go every hour even through the night from 7 months on. It depends where the baby is sitting.
Get that book. It's a life saver. Also, the "What To Expect The First Year," is a great book too.

She may have no morning sickness, they say if you have a boy the morning sickness tends to be worse. With every women these things progress differently, the bigger you get the worse the back pain will be generally 6months plus. The feet swell more when they're in use, driving, standing, walking, etc. The bladder thing will start around 6 months also and peeing does not stop. Even after having a baby you tend to have a weak bladder and remember this when you sneeze, you'll find out. The pain is not the hard part, it's the first 6-8weeks after having a baby that's truly hard. Just look at that baby's face and you'll get through it all, it all starts with that first sonagram. GOOD LUCK :)

1) should end at the end of first trimester, but could last the entire pregnancy - sorry :O(
2) may not necessarily have much back pain, but do NOT close your mind to the epidural. I had back pain with both my children. 1st one SEVERE 2nd one not so bad, but got that epidural earlier also.
3) may not have any swelling or very minimal. I did not have any swelling (at least did not notice any) with 1st, with 2nd feet began swelling right about half way through and was bad - my right foot would swell almost twice as much as left and they hurt
4) can't believe she didn't experience that already. probably did and didn't even know she was pregnant at that point, but she can expect to feel baby on bladder anywhere from about 5th month on out. as for how often whe will be getting up to use the bathroom - ALOT, a WHOLE LOT!!
BTW-my god-daughter had all three of her children with absolutely no drugs with a mid-wife and she had very LITTLE pain. (I hate her!! :O) Just kidding of course. I am jealous.)
Oh! Also, EVERY single pregnancy is different. If she has more children later she will see just how different they can me.
Good luck and enjoy this fun time. If you sing to the baby or read to the baby, it is my experience with both my children that the song I sang to them while pregnant would calm them down when they were upset.
Also, "What To Expect When You Are Expecting" is a fantastic book. My doctor recommended it and it was so handy. Something happens, I look it up in the book and know that I do or do not need to mention it to the doctor.

I have two kids and each of my pregnancies were different but I can give you some generals here.
Morning sickness should end for her in the next 2 months or so, it rarely lasts past the second trimester, if that far.
The back pain will depend on how much weight she gains and how she carries the baby. With my first child, I had a lot of back aches.. I gained a LOT of weight. With the second, I had few back aches but gained just a little.
Feet swelling depend entirely on water retention. Some women never have that problem. I did with the first but not the second.
As for the bladder... both of mine pressed in around 6 months or so.. and I had to get up 3-4 times a night to use the bathroom.
She should have her ob/gyn give her a pregnancy handbook. The only I received was filled with information such as this and I almost wore it out.
Good luck and congrats!

1. Morning sickness goes away when her body learns to deal with the raging hormones.
2. Not all woman have back pain, I didn't just some discomfort.
3. I didn't get swollen feet til I was about 8 months.
4. Kid one used my bladder as a soccer ball from months 1-7 then turned and used my rib cage as a place to hide. How ever the constant need to pee never went away. Kid 2 thought my bladder was her pillow and stayed there all 9 months and I just would of been better off wearing a diaper.
Now labor was not half as scary as I thought, but that was a short lived happiness because after a long, long, long labor and 4 hours of pushing I needed an emergency c-section, and that sucked. GOOD LUCK!!

1. I was very sick with my daughter immediately (9 weeks). It stopped completely at around 13 weeks. With my son, I never got very sick.
2. back pain will depend on her physique, but my son was big and it started around 20 weeks. It didn't start with my daughter until around 28 weeks.
3. some people dont swell much at all. My first pregancy included a lot of swelling. My second, not much at all. if her feet do swell significantly, tell her to keep an eye on her blood pressure. If they swell a lot, it can be a sign of preeclampsia.
4. around 22-24 weeks I had to get up at least once a night to pee. by the end, it was 2-3 times per night.
This is only MY experience, which was probably pretty normal for most. But may people have such different experiences that you shouldn't rely on any one person's account as a bench mark.
Best of luck!
