I don't understand why. I hate hurting someone's feelings. It's a horrible feeling, ya know?

This is an interesting question. I've been mean, real mean. The rush part of it only came for me when I've battled, but it is shamefully addictive. My personal cruelty was the product of my upbringing and the harsh realm conditions I was schooled in as a child. I think the cruelest weapon is the voice when used in anger, far more damaging than any kick or punch. Such a waste of time. My experience has been that love is the only thing that takes all that away, love and forgiveness. That what puts the dragon to sleep. Well that and taking responsibility for how I want to live and not being offended. Besides you don't win them all, there is always someone meaner coming along. I'd rather hang out with the ladies at this point in my life( they sure take the meanie out of me) and leave the meanness to the youngsters. Thank you for the opportunity to reflect upon things I haven't thought about in years, great question.

I would say that reason a man is mean is (1) he was either treated very badly as a child and has never had any kind of life experience that would cause him to change, or (2) he was handed every thing more or less on a silver platter as a child and when life does not continue to give him everything he wants he becomes bitter. I agree with whoever before me that said some men are children in grown-up bodies. That is sad to say, but it does seem like that there are more than a few men who never have and never will grow and take responsibility for their lives and their actions.

Many answers to this intriguing question. Again, it's a case by case basis. Some feel threatened and others wish to avoid being threatened. Some are insecure and others feel security through control. Some feel you deserve it, and others feel they deserve the power. Some feel the rush and love it. Others feel guilty about it and just hide it. Some feel it makes them feel more like a man while others feel it's just because you are a woman.

I personally hate all of it. If I am ever mean, it's embarrassing enough but I know if I don't make it right, I feel like LESS of a man. That would not be a rush at all to me.

Not all men are mean but those who are are generaly that way because they know they are weak so they have to put up a front to others so they will not see their weekness. It is all about the inability to control oneself. There are many weaknesses that set it off. Everything from being poor or an alcololic, or past trama causing fear. But it all ends up in the same thing. They can not control themselves so they try to control others. Mean men are weak. Loving and supportive men have a strength within themselves so they do not need to control others.

Because they are threatened by us smarter women. They try to use fear to control us. Anybody who gets a rush out of a man being mean needs to get a brain examination because she will end up with an abusive relationship that will not stop.

I can say that as a guy men are mean because its a defense mechanism. If some men act mean outright for no reason its because of the assumption that the best defense is a good offense. If you make yourself look like a badass then others wont mess with you and some girls like the badass kind of guy.

It's a catch-22. The same thing in men that enables them to move mountains, build skyscrapers and spaceships, protect their families, defend their homes, die for their country...call it testosterone if you want...also makes them mean and commit the vast majority of violent and sexual crimes in our society. Partly to blame is the imagery coming out of Hollywood, confusing our young people with the idea that men who are loyal and caring and who openly cry are wimps and weenies, while those who are violent and brutal are daring are brave, even though most of their victims are women and children. So why are they mean? Because they can be. But the good news is that most men are not this way...most are loyal family men who care for their families...and surprisingly, many of them are not ashamed to cry.

SOME DO, its their very nature

Men have been mean ever since there were men

Its only recently that men have become somewhat kinder and gentler in general
A better question would be why are women so sensitive

They like to think they can be in control, and they don't take other peoples feelings in to account. I'm bored of men who actually think they have a right to play about with your feelings. I know theres nice guys around,it's just finding one that I have trouble with!
