I know that at first it was explained to us by our government officials that the terrorists "hated our freedom" and that is why they attacked us. This never made musc sense to me. But I suspect the true reason may be something else our government was not telling us. after all the investigations and discussion was it ever decided what the real reasons were? Did the terrorists ever offer any explanation/ what was it? Should their reasons for doing it alter our responses?
If they truly hated our freedom. aren't we letting them win each time we let the government take away another freedom to "fight the terrorists"?
Maybe we should seek to understand the real reasons they attacked us and try to respond accordingly instead of responding to a made-up reason. maybe that would work better and serve to stop future attacks?

I'm going to have to politely disagree on the grounds that the mainstream media, in Bush's corner, has deceived most everyone, in the US at least. Which isn't going to last forever, might I add.

Mountains of evidence supports that the "war on terror" is just a big farce!

If you have time, you may want to listen to some alternative views on what's actually going on:

The main reason, as stated by Bin Laden is the the US used Saudi Arabia as a base to attack Iraq during first Gulf War and Afterwards put a military base on Saudi Arabian soil, the Islamic holy land. That and US support for the Saudi ARabian royal family which al Queda sees as correct.

Not many people realize that we moved our forces out of bases in Saudi Arabia after 9/11.

look on the timeframe of those occurences. All in the process the Clinton administration. the component to remember approximately his "legacy" is that he desperate considering the fact that Communism fell in Europe and the Soviet Union replaced into not greater and Russia had embraced democracy, he desperate to decrease militia budgets via 2/3rds. This blanketed cancelling "black ops." It replaced into "black ops" interior the 80's that stored a pay attention for this form stuff. It replaced right into a reliable militia funds that presented greater stepped forward trainging good sustain with the ever changing battlefield. Now, we ought to continually rebuild from scratch and learn as we circulate. I rpomise you this, had the 1st WTC Bombings, or the united statesCole incedent or the Tanzanian Embassy bombings occured interior the Reagan Years, we would have whipped some severe A**. basically remember Qadaffi's Line of dying...and the relatives he no longer has...

As an American Muslim, replying on behalf of Muslims abroad, we DO NOT hate your freedom.. I can honestly say thats the best part about living here... I love this country, but I HATE its foreign policies.... Allow me to list a few reasons:

1. US Policy regarding Israel/Palestine
2. US Policy towards India vs. Pakistan (Pakistan has been an ally of the US since its creation, though India has time and time again spoken against the US... yet India is still favored).
3. Almost all Muslim countries have US troops occupying and monitoring their countries.
4. Refusal to abide by the Geneva Conventions despite being a world leader.
5. Making rules for the entire world to follow, yet we shouldnt follow those rules...
6. Being ok with India building a nuclear weapon, but ready to place sanctions on Pakistan if they do it as well...

I can go on and on forever... but the US really needs to assess its foreign policies and quit the double standards. Most importantly Muslims feel threatened by the alliance of the United States, Israel and India. Are they out to destroy us??? Most definitely....

I believe the reason is because of their religious beliefs. I don't want to offend anyone on this site, so I will make a note that this is MY understanding of their motives.

They were muslim extremists (?) and believe that Allah wants all who do not worship him to die. They believe that we are immoral and that we don't deserve to live.

America is not the only country to have been affected.
There have been many attacks worldwide - London, Indonesia, Spain, plus many more.
All countries have been affected by these attacks.

I agree that this issue has not been dealt with appropriatley, much more needs to be done. However, I don't believe a solution will ever be provided from the current governments.

I know the reason. You might not want to hear it, but I have it. Its because americans are considered arrogant and rude the world over. Now i know this is untrue, because ive met so many of ur people. Its not individual americans, but american foreign policy that gives this impression. oh and by the way idiots like aulona36 dont help your cause... Remember the other 30 countries that fought in those wars on the side of the allies, aulona36? read YOUR history.

There are prisoners in Guantanamo Bay that have not been tried, have no legal representation, their families cannot see them and are obviously kept in a strange land outside their own country. There is no international monitoring of their conditions and fate. No one knows whether they are prisoners, POWs, accused or criminals.

European investigators have confirmed the existence of secret prisons in Europe too. I could not correlate the abduction of a person, and him or her being kept in secret prisons, with the provisions of any judicial system.

The newly elected Palestinian administration recently took office. All independent observes have confirmed that this government represents the electorate. Unbelievingly, they have put the elected government under pressure and have advised it to recognise the Israeli regime, abandon the struggle and follow the programs of the previous government.

Who is doing terrorism ?

I saw a documentary on the History channel that basically linked the radical islamist movement to one man (whose name escapes me)he was a Muslim that lived in Colorado in the late fifties or early sixties. he was appalled at the way Americans went to extremes with exevrything, especially the way we put so much time into keeping well groomed and manicured lawns, Yeah, I laughed also. It then went on to connect him to some type of Islamic brotherhood. He became a member, and started preaching the radical Islam stuff, the brotherhood didn't like him very much because of his radical beliefs. He was incarcerated a few times for different things, but he kept preaching his beliefs whilein the prisons and gained a large following. They made connections to him and the assination of Anwar Sadat(Egypt). They said Sadat was too westernized in his beliefs, and they took him out. That basically got the radical ball rolling. I will look for more info, and try to post a link. History channel might have some info on their website. It was a very good documentary, and it also went into Sadam hussein and the war with Iran, and how they ultimately kicked his butt.
But, I believe 9/11 happened because of the U.S. deals with Bin laden and the oil pipeline in Afganistan. I think the involvement of radical Islam extremists is just a lucky twist of fate for Bin Laden, and he is taking advantage of the poor brainwashed sheeples who think they are dying for a just cause. I think they will run out of steam in a year or two, they think that we are the infidels, but nobody has told them that Bin Laden is the real infidel. We need to get our propaganda machine into high gear and start letting those people know what a looser bin Laden is, instead of giving them information that is going to make it tougher for us to defeat them. Our press makes us look weak and divided.

The hate of our freedom as a reason for 911 and other crimes against America doesn't quite "wash" with me either.you had some great input on your question and I enjoyed reading them.I especially liked cantcu's statements.Being an american, and one that has supported his country,I find it disturbing that so many people don't like us.These seem to include our allies and many do see us as a rude, arrogant nation that tends to bully others to our way of thinking.Maybe like the neighborhood bully that sees himself as supreme and untouchable, some would like to "humble" him. This may seem too simple to some readers but many of todays problems are simple and we work too hard to make them complex.I want to stress,"I am pro American",but I believe that our leaders do come across to others as "bullies" and right about everthing.I don't think we have the right to force our will on others nor do I think we can with people that have practiced a way of life for centuries.I also believe that "charity belongs at home" and we have so many problems to address here, not to say that we should not help others that are so much less fortunate than we are but we should insist that they live exactly as we do.

i think you hit the nail on the head with the latter part of your question. this is not an attack on all americans, but the USA does not have very many friends, especially in the eastern parts of the world. this may have something to do with the way the US government has always done things in the international communities. do they not strike you as bullies?

Cancu's Answer! I've stated myself since begining. When something or someone goes haywire you seek to get to the truth of what is 'wrong'. I can't believe how many stupid Americans swallow the crap....... they hate our freedoms! The Cons are who hate our freedoms. And they're taking more and more away.
The right-wrong-wing is Steve Martin saying the Sniper "hates these cans"!
