I'm reading everything from two fantails in a 10-gallon to two oscars in a 10-gallon. Do you not realize how much waste these fish produce, and how big they're going to get?

This is not meant as a jab towards all of you. Just the ones that do asinine things like this.

Nothing bothers me more than seeing animals mistreated. How would you like to live in a closet full of feces, with no clean air or water?

NO, PEOPLE DO NOT. Sad thing is most pet stores will set them up with what they got. Anything to sell a product. They do the same with reptiles which I have bred and sold for years. I got to the point to where I screen my buyers. Don't let it get you down it is human nature, it would have killed me of stress years ago if I let it really get to me.

Some people you need to start off slowly with. If you tell them they really need 55 gallons or more they will not listen to anything you have to say and will just put them in a bowl anyway with no filter and only clean it when they think it needs to, sometimes once a month. So by saying they need at least a certain amount when they get them, the fish will have some room to grow a bit and hopefully the owner will notice that the fish actually does need more room then the minimum.

I too am frustrated. Though i can understand how people make mistakes, it shocks me how people blatently ignore good advise just to keep fish. I am pretty sure a nice 125 gal planted tank is way better than a dirty bowl witha few goldfish.

I too have used analogies such as that, but still have some patience. Advertising and tv have had an adverse effect on people, and many dont know what it is like. I have seen books saying goldfish in bowls is ok. I do hate animal suffering, but i hate those that dont do anything more. Dont penalize anyone who does this but the people who dont care

Most people get fish out of impulse, and fail to do the proper research prior, to provide the correct habitat.

As they do with many other animals, not just fish.

It really depends on the type of fish...I have at least one tank of fish in every room in my house and we only researched for the big fish to see what they ate and how they lived and stuff like that.

Yeah, oscars need heated water and eat goldfish, and goldfish need cold water. All animals need proper space! I just read someone thought a certain snake only grew to the size of its tank!!!
THANK YOU!!!!! I worked at a pet store for about 13 years (got fired twice for caring too much basically). I got sooooooo mad at stupid people! They treated animals like toys for their kids for the weekend!
I really appreciated the decent caring people that came in! More stupid than good people though!
I would tell them the truth, like if you don't have the money, time, energy, love etc. for an animal - don't get it!!! DUH!
Thanks again for caring!!!!

I didn't buy my fish...I won it at a carnival!! But after I won it I did take it to a petstore so they could tell me everything I would need to get and how to take care of it!
