I am 17 year-old gay guy that just met a 16 year-old one. He is very cute and nice and we have A LOT in common, but then I learned something about his ex-boyfriends that disturbed me. His last ex was 24, and now I know that he has a pattern of dating older guys. I know that he wasn't a child, but it still seems wrong. He said age is just a number. Is he mentally screwed up?

When someone is a minor, age just isn't a number...it's a criminal offense.
Think about it...24 year olds are into a lot of stuff 17 year olds aren't. If his past relationships bother you take it as a red flag and find someone else.

No, he is not mentally screwed up! If you think about it there are not as many gay men and women as there are straight men and women. This limits choices A LOT!!! And just like with straight men and women, you find people and start chatting, find you like each other and if you click, you start dating! Age IS only a number nowadays and if he dated older men, so what!!! He is interested in YOU now and you should accept that. If you can't, maybe the tables are turned....maybe it's not him that's screwed up! Go for it...and see how it goes!!! Give him a chance! Good luck!

I can't say for sure if he's "mentally screwed up" but there may be something there.... I don't think that this one thing makes it or breaks it for you guys, but I do think you need to watch out for his need to have a "father figure type" thing goin' on.

I would worry more about the older guys then your boyfriend, because the older guys should know better than to date a 16-year-old.

I'd say this isn't something to freak out about and maybe he'll be right with you because you are both about the same age.

No worries! Have a great relationship!

With him saying "age is just a number." I'd worry if he's thinking about seeing younger men/boys.... Other than that... forget about it.

no, he's not mentally screwed up!! Plus none of us would know that yet. I don't think 24/18 is THAT big of a deal. 18-45 might be a different story!. Many people like older people. It's when it's not legal that it's an issue!!!!

you're cool, don't worry, Just figure out what YOU like about him and that's all that should matter. Everyone learns through experiences so don't judge him on his past experiences.

To each his own. The person having the relationship with him should of been in jail, he was too young. But him preferring older men, is his choice. I like older men, of course I'm older and a woman, but same difference. Yes, age is just a number. People mature at different levels.

Uh, yes
file under, if you have to ask, then YES
Gay dating can always be dangerous
Its good to date men your own age
There are a lot of predators out there looking for twinks
(you knew that)
Don't take being gay too serious, you are also a lot of other things to other people also
be safe, everyone makes mistakes, don't make any you cannot live with

They are only 8 yrs. apart. It may seem a lot now but in 10 yrs. from now it really doesn't matter. He might like to date older guys because they are more mature and at his intellect thinking. Guys that are of his age seem to immature for him right now. You maybe mature enough for him, so give it a try.

Past should stay in the past. Stop digging up things that are already buried.
