Even if you're "full term" that doesn't necessarily mean that your baby's ready to be delivered - those last few weeks are vital when it comes to lung development.

Just start moving around more (take walks) and as the previous person mentioned, try having sex. Regardless, your baby will come when he/she's good and ready. We tried various ways to induce labor when I was 39 weeks and my son still decided to arrive 3 days late.

Actually, the number 40 is only the *average* number of weeks though I agree not to rush things. Especially don't try any more Castor oil! I've even heard that nipple stimulation can be dangerous. The only thing my doctor would let me try is sex, walking, and more walking.

Your body will go when it's ready. I know how miserable I was at the end, I just had a baby two months ago. Hang in there, it'll be over soon!

I doubt this will work. However you should know that while 37 weeks to 40 weeks is considered full term that even a baby at 40 weeks really only has a 95% chance that his/her lungs are ready. The baby will come when it comes. If your doctor feels you are ready he/she can induce labor. Many doctors are willing to do this by 38 weeks. Having an orgasm can induce labor.
I assume this is your first and they tend to want to hang out in there so you may want to just relax and enjoy the calm before the storm. He/she will let you know when he is ready to come out.

Congratulations, I tried everything to induce my son but nothing worked. The castor oil was the worst thing it made me sick and didn't induce the baby. Then with my second, i was relaxed and in no hurry and my daughter came 3 and a half weeks early. You need to remember that baby's come when they are ready, the time and date of your baby's birth will have alot to do with the path they are about to lead. Take it easy, I know how exciting it is but rest now so your ready, Take warm baths, but not to hot, sex will also soften the cervix. But the main thing is you need to relax. don't hurry yourself it will all be worth it in a month and that time will go so quickly. Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you.

You are full term but 40 weeks is when the baby is fully developed. Did you ask your doctor before taking the castor oil? If it is your first pregnancy most go till about 42 weeks. I know it seems like your going to be pregnant forever but the baby will come when it's ready. You need to walk alot, it gets the baby lower in your pelvis and in position for birth. Also have sex. But all those things are old wives tales, no one knows if they work for sure. Just relax it will happen sooner or later. Good luck.

Well for one, this is not going to work on you unless your body is ready to go into labor. I took it with my second son, at about 38 weeks, and it did work, but I was already 2 cm dilated, and having erratic contractions on my own. It really just helps push things along that have already started.
As far as the other answer, that it's not safe and what's wrong with you~it is completely safe as long as you do not take more than 4 oz. in a 6 hour period. Please keep in mind that I took it at the advice of my doctor, who I don't believe would tell me to do something that would potentially harm my baby. That being said, since you did already take it, if it doesn't work, please don't take it again, at least for another week. If you do, all that will happen is you will get diarrhea and a sore bottom!

Uh, I'm a little concerned here. Why in Heaven's name would you try to induce your own labor? You need to let your baby stay in the womb as long as possible. 37 weeks is full term, but that doesn't mean that you need to have your baby. Are you crazy? I think so. You should hope that your child doesn't have any problems. Get to the ER ASAP.

i think of those style of solutions are BS. Your husband does desire you. and you need to have intercourse up till transport day except your in a severe possibility being pregnant or your wellness care expert has advised you to no longer. Im 34 weeks pregnant. And we've had this project. Ive basically gotten so tight. attempt fooling around a sprint till now. enable him play with you down there and it will loosen you up or attempt it interior the bathe. reliable luck and that i understand the variety you experience.

Castor oil is a laxative there fore it crosses the placenta and into the baby. It will probably have a bowel movement and breathe meconium (poop) into the lungs that can hurt the baby when he takes his first breaths. That wasn't a very good idea.

I read in American Baby magazine that not only does this not work, but it can be dangerous.

They rated sex and milk expression as the top ways to self induce, particularly because expressing milk and nipple stimulation help release oxytocin.
