I think we do learn about ourselves, I often run across questions regarding situations I take for granted. I enjoy answering certain questions and then looking at other answers for points I might have missed or did not think of. I like to see where my answers are very similar to other answers and where my answer is unique from other answers. It is good to draw on other people's experience when facing a new challenge.

I think we do learn about ourselves, and how we would react to a situation that someone describes. We also learn alot because if there is a question we're not completely sure of, we may research online to find the answer and thus learn something in the process. So, Yahoo Answers is also educational! You can never stop learning.

I do perhaps learn something about myself from playing around on Yahoo! Answers, but I have to be honest and say that it's not my primary motive. While I don't consider myself to be cocky (I'm a pretty humble guy most of the time), I get a big ego boost from giving the most articulate and complete answer to a really good question. There's something about the impersonality of the internet and the public nature of the forum in which we strut our stuff that makes it that much more gratifying. I'm a teacher, so I can *already* feel good about answering others' questions all the time, and yet I still find myself here....

Sure, you can always learn about yourself through others. You tend to find that there are many others like you with similar interests and beliefs. Soon you realize you're in this network of folks that seem like clones of yourself. To me it's soothing to know that what I say, the advise I give, or the prayers I provide to many, could help people. That's my niche in life, helping whoever I possibly can and helping them see the sunshine on a rainy day, or the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Everytime I answer a question, I feel some sense of accomplishment, and I know more and more how good of a person I strive to be. I'm more than content, and I wake up everyday in Paradise no matter where I am in the world...

I think each of us have our on reasons, I like to answer question because I need answer's to projects I am working on. This form is a very large body of living information. Real time information. I google problems then I ask a question. This form saves me allot of time. Yahoo Answer is the fastest growing Internet sit of this type in the world at this time. If you have a question 1 to 2500 people may give you an answer on most any subject. There are forms I like to ask question in (Home repair), there are the ones I like to answer(Mental health). I ask where my needs are and answer where my knowledge is. I think in some areas of this ask- answer format we do learn about ourselves. In other parts we gain knowledge on how to accomplish as task. I hope it stay around. I use it about once a week to ask and everyday to do answer. I answer where I see a great need to helpful information.

It's addictive because of the competitiveness within us to gain more points & to get to the highest level... IMO I think I should be rightfully compensated for the time I've invested here, lol! A girl can only wish... *sighs*
Also something healthier to do when you're bored as oppose to staring at four blank walls, get drunk, drugs, etc.
Any knowledge gained is a lesson well learned. I find it gratifying that some of my answers made someone's day.

You have a good point! I've learned that I miss being a librarian where I helped people find answers they needed. Maybe I retired too soon.
I also see that I like providing advice in areas that seem to need a little common sense. Maybe Dear Abby can retire and people can just put their questions here.

Yes, of course..
the answer we give to others is based on ourself's perception, knowledge, thoughts...
the questions make us think of ourselves (what i think, what i believe, etc)...
and between answers there's a common, differents, then sometimes we compare, substract, combine our answer to other... that sounds we do learn, don't we ?
well may be at first we learn about ourselves personally, but then we also learn by comparing to others. and may be if the answers is totally opposite, we learn to be tolerance.

i think it's not so much ourselves as it is others. It helps pass the time, and if you know something, heck, there's no harm in helping someone else out. I'm addicted to answers because of so many reasons - i find out about others, i have the ability to help others in many of the categories, and i find something new everyday that maybe i didn't know the answer to, and had to look it up.

I think it is a good refresher to remind ourselves how much we really do know and how much of life we've gone through to get where we are. We learn by experiences and the more experiences, the wiser we are.......
