I'm sure even a tow truck driver understands some people don't have much money right now and was grateful for whatever you had to offer. Never go over what you can really afford to offer. You did just fine. That's $4 less than he had when he came out to help you so he did good to get that. Could buy something for dinner at a dollar tree with that, put a little extra gas, $4 off a bill; could pass the $4 in the offering plate to give back after you gave to him. He was just doing his job and most likely didn't expect anything in return. I don't think its custumary to tip a tow truck driver. It's a gift of appreciation is all. You both did fine

No doubt about it. These guys are there in any kind of weather to clean up someone else's mess and have to deal with the mess maker as well. The reason the term was changed from "Accident" to "Incident", is because someone was doing something they should not have been. That is no accident. If insurance companies and the states spent as much on training drivers as the do on advertising, many lives would be saved. But, why do you think they do not? Is it not cheaper for the insurance company to pay to bury you, than to pay the medical bills? Think about it, the next time you roll through a stop sign or traffic signal, then try to out run the traffic you just pulled in front of. Do you know the most dangerous maneuver to make when driving? No, not backing. It's a lane change. Do you always signal and make a safe lane change? Did you know that a ticket for a improper lane change is the same as drunk driving? Always drive safely! You may someday meet someone who drives as bad as you, and what is the result? You get your name in the local paper, perhaps for the last time.

tell you the truth I dont think no one working should get tips. why are you getting tips. Your getting paid for your job right. Besides I am in the military and no one has ever gave me a tip. Besides a tow truck driver does what sits around most of the day drives to your location charge you an arm and a leg to take your vehicle to a show to get worked on where your going to pay more money. makes no sense to me. But hey that's me.

Yes, he deserves a tip because he has to travel to get you from wherever you break down, and some places (like the side of a highway) are dangerous for him. They also get you out of a jam you would otherwise be stuck in (ie - walking home, highway patrol impounding your car, impound storage fees...) in addition to the repair of your car. They play taxi too - as they don't make you walk home while they take your car. Give em a tip, out of sheer gratitude for making your life easier if not for the job they do. Statisically, did you know they make less money on average per hour than a taxi driver?

Yes. Especially if the driver came to you on a AAA call. The rate for those calls is very low if their is no towing mileage involved.

Heck NO!!!!!! Ha! Well, guess it depends. I had a car towed to my House and after we got there, I gave the two guys a cold beer and they helped me put the car on jack stands as they drank the beer. I guess Beer is considered a tip.

it depends if it is an after hours call like late at night and they get there and are polite absolutly some poor guy has to get out of bed and get your car also in bad weather you should to i know you are paying for it anyway but most get paid by mileage not time and it will take them considrable longer if the roads r slick tow drivers deal with alot in their job and r usually under paid and way under appreciated by their employer

At the minimum rate and the per mile charge they get, I say no way. I recently had my car towed about 10 miles and they charged me almost $100.00. No tips....... no way.

If they're independent they're maing a killing. If they work for a large company, chances are they're dirt poor and if they are polite and treat your car good, then a $5 is cool.
