It can be of any material as long as it's a solid yellow sort of color throughout...(I would guess, for the smoothest surface it would be resin/acrylic. Not sure- I'm not too experienced with beads.)

Definately go to either Michael's Arts & Crafts or Hobby Lobby. I would suggest Michael's first. They have an extensive collection of beads in many different shapes, colors and materials, like glass, onyx, plastic, wood, shells, etc. They also have all the necessary attachments and/or tools for jewelry making, such as chains, wire, hooks, clasps, etc. It's always better to actually see what you're getting first hand instead of trying to "see" what it looks like by buying on the Internet.

Check your phone book first. Even several small towns around here have bead shops to make jewelry and the like, and they would probably have the best collection of pendants for what you are looking for.
