I am a small in home breeder of Chihuahuas.
I am computer ignorant so the "do it yourself" web sites do not work for me.
I have tried to research as much as possible, but it is simply over my head. There is too much involved for me to understand.
The web designers I have checked on are totally out of my budget.
Hopefully, I can find someone that is working on their portfolio.

Dear, sweet, Geni100, I have no idea what you just said.
People please remember the COMPUTER IGNORANT part.
And I thought $300.00 was expensive.

I could do things for you, but I think that your best bet will still be with a do it yourself approach. (I'd cost you quite a bit, in the thousands to get started).

If you bought Macromedia's Dreamweaver, you could build your own site very affordably. Then, most sites will host that for about $12 per month. You're going to have a bit of a learning curve, but it's not going to be too bad. Do you remember when you learned to use a word processor? There was a million things to learn, but you got through it. Dreamweaver's similar: it handles the technical behind the scenes, but you've got to layout the pages, grab the graphics, and that kind of thing.

If you've got to get some guts behind your site (say a shopping cart, a database keeping track of blogs, users, or your dogs), you may be stretching outside of what would be easy to master in a few weeks. That's the kind of stuff you could call on me for. I could give you advice or do it for you. But, I wouldn't worry about that until you can see a strong business case for it.

Enjoy the journey. Designing your own web presence is actually kind of theraputic.

Hi,
If you just want a simple site to show pics of your dogs, describe what you do and then link to your e-mail and a phone number. I'm going to suggest you do this as a blog, so everything will be free.
Go to http://Blogger.com and register, it's free , easy and has lots of instructions. Good Luck! Here's some examples of blogs
