i was watching nash bridges, and and then i was watching fast and the furious and i was wondering is being an under cover cop or a SIU (special ivestigations unit) captain really that way in real life...i need some answers please...o and how much does and under cover and a cop in san fransico california in the SIU, and miami florida really make

Not really. Television and movies glamourize it alot. There is a lot more paperwork and down time than they show on television. You will make more if you work in the larger cities, and have more chance for advancement, as many small towns don't even have undercover or special investigations units.

As a former cop's kid, I can tell you that it's not like TV at all. Think about never being home for special occasions; Christmas, birthday, etc. Working "side jobs" for extra money. My dad started out making under $5000/year in 1968. He worked 17 years and his disability pension, because of a very serious injury on the job, is only about $20,000/year. It's not glamorous, it's hard work.

Police work is 90% paperwork. Stakeouts are incredibly boring, and everythiing you see on tv is made to be exciting and it is not the real world.

Detectives were getting about 45,000 a year when I retired.

Nope, you do have some fun moments - but most of the time you deal with domestic disturbances, accidents, and speeders.

nothing ov TV is like that in real life, not even the reality shows....TV is crap like that....don't know about salaries for cops though, you might have to do your own research on that one...
