Write something positive--but honest. Let them know if you're an energetic go-getter type (lets them know you're not afraid of hard work), enthusiastic people person (they'll know you can get along with others). Maybe mention a hobby or personal interest that may pertain to that area of employment. For instance, if you're going into the travel business tell them if you have traveled a lot or admit you're an armchair adventurer, but looking forward to being there in person. You might want to say you're up to new challenges.

Maybe you should ask close friends or family or even former work associates what words they would use to describe you.

A new trend is to hire a life coach. If there is one in your area, and you can afford it, or are interested in what they have to say, they may be able to help you. If not, there are books available in bookstores or libraries that could help. A Life Coach/Mentor that has written several very successful books and has conducted seminars is Deborah Brown-Volkman.

They don't want to know that you like to vacation in Miami. They want to know about anything that is going to prove that you are the right fit for the position that you are applying for. Let's say that you are applying for a business manager position:

"I graduated with honors from No Where University . My degree was in Business Management. I am very active in my community by volunteering my time as a business manager for the Boys and Girls Club."

This is the kind of answer they are looking for.

You describe yourself using any positive qualities that you may have and that may be attractive to an employer.
ie: I always show up on time, I am hard working, I prefer to work alone but I get along well with groups, I'm sociable, I'm easy going and friendly, I am confident, etc.

I try to describe what motivates me and a vague description of my goals. Keep it short, it's not an essay and the person reading it is busy. Leave personal stuff out, they don't want to know what you do on the weekends or about your kids , save that stuff for later.

Professional traits..."I am hard-working and dedicated..." Things that you would say in an interview. Stay positive and business-focused. You'll be fine.
