Never plan to be fertile based on the days!
Use the temperature monitoring. Your temperature jumps noticably just before ovulation (e.g. about 24-36 hrs). I used this to try to get pregnant with my first child, which worked pretty well. It works either way, to help get/avoid children.
My cycle was really irregular, so it helped tracking the temperature. I discovered I started my period almost exactly 5 days after the temperature jump, which is quite assuredly *not* day 14.
It took about 2 months to get the hang of the temperature monitoring. I also used a mercury basal thermometer (normal oral thermometers are *not* good enough). I now have an electrical one, and I just don't think it works as well - which I wouldn't know, if I didn't have the comparison.
There are over the counter ovulation test-kits, which I have found to be pretty useless for me - might work wonders for others. This would be good, if you are trying to get pregnant. Not good for contraception.

Actually, unless your period comes every 28 days, you cannot know. You can ovulate way late (I had an ovulation on day 35 just a few months ago and I am absolutely sure about that, because I do temperatures, tests and all the other crap) or you can ovulate early, just as other people said. A lot depends on how long your luteal phase is, which can be 10 days or shorter or around 14 days (usual) or longer. If you do not use any other methods, the best way to go is to follow your natural signs - increased discharge, position of your cervix, increased sexual appetite and your husband/boyfriend. No kidding, mine is always obsessed with sex when I am fertile the most and calms down right after I ovulate.

It is typically around day 14. But it totally depends on how long your cycle is. Day 14 is an average ovulation date for a 28 day cycle. But women can ovulate as early as day 7 or as late as day 20 on a 28 day cycle. But it typically falls in between day 12-16. Again, depends on the length of your cycle. The best way to know for sure is to get an ovualtion kit. It is in the pregnancy test area of the pharmacy. But this only tells you if you have already began ovulation. You can get pregnant by having intercourse within 72 hours of beginning ovulation as well.

Probably the 15th, if the preceding month was only 30 days. If it had 31, then it would be the 14th. However, anytime is possible. Don't gamble, if you aren't ready to start a family.

it all depends on your cycle - do you have a 28 day cycle or a 30 day cycle, etc
try one of these sites to help you track this - I like to use these so I don't make a mistake in counting
Good luck
