Yea you need a special one, the one sold in game stores directly for PSP use is guaranteed to work, you can mix and match with other USB cables but there's a low chance of it working.

No you dont need a special one if one of ur friends had a very simple mp3 player the usb cable should work an ipod one will not work

wat u do is u go to gamestop.com or any other site and see if they have it in stock and look it up as psp usb. and buy it online or at the store it should be at least $10
