Incorporate the catch phrases from the job description. Sometimes, the people reviewing this stuff are not very creative and would prefer just to hear back what they've already stated.

I usually put what my strengths were from previous jobs, like never calling off, constantly switching shifts with other workers, coming in early, staying late, etc.

Most employers are looking at how you are selling yourself, tell them about accomplishments from formers jobs. Some employers may be looking at how your personal interests will help you succeed in that particular store or department, for example a passion for music wouldn't help you to sell hammers.

This is a question which tests your ability to articulate your thoughts and strengths. Focus on those qualities which are required on the job and describe them well. Be positive and enthusiastic but don't go overboard with superlatives. You don't write your favourite pastime if that is irrelevent to the job at hand.
