I think you should yell and file complaints. All my ultrasounds were covered by insurance, and the standard ones (outside of your abdomen) cost about $350, roughly. I had early ultrasounds (transvaginally) and they were slightly more expensive, but nowhere near $900. I'd start bitching if I were you. Remember...the squeaky wheel gets the grease. :)

Well it depends on that the ultrasound is for. If its just a routine ultrasound, looking to see how far along you are, how many babies are in there etc, then yes, $900 is a definite rip off! If, however, its to test for some kind of abnormality they already picked up, then $900 is probably about average....not very fair they charge so much, but wouldn't u rather know if there is something wrong, no matter how much it costs to find out?

If you don't have insurance $900 is probably right. Even with insurance, unless you're considered "at risk" ultra sounds are not covered by most insurance companies (that was 13 years ago). I wanted an ultrasound to find out the sex of my child, the insurance company will not pay for a "sneak peak." My doctor told them I was "under weight" for 5 months & wanted to make sure everything was alright; that's how I got mind done. Otherwise, if you're healthy, forget it! See if Tom Crusie let you borrow his... Why do you need an ultrasound anyway?

Most medical procedures are extremely expensive when you deal with private pay. The insurance companies dont even come close to what we have to pay privately. Maybe you can make a deal with them.
I dont know if the amount is high or not. Is is possible for you to get health insurance. Most state agencies have something that is called pcap which is kinda like medicaid for pregnant women. The income requirements are alot higher than for regular medicaid.

Yeah that sound about right. Insurance covered all mine but I still got a statement in the mail with the cost breakdown. My sister was on insurance through the state (low income assistance) and all hers were covered too. If that's not possible, most hospitals will set up a payment plan for you.

Well you didn't put any perspective of the scenerio. If you are financially needy then there are many places that offer women care for reasonable fees. My sister had very little and she went to a womans care center for little money.
All the woman I know that have had ultrasounds had insurance though other then my sister who went to the care center.
If you are looking for places that offer smaller fees I would visit a planned parenthood.
I imagine that it is expensive if it is related to an emergency care center.

I just had a pelvic u/s at a local place and they charged me 700, 350 for each of the two u/s involved. It is also customary to charge 10 - 15% less if you are not insured.

no, you should not pay more than 250 for an ultrasound. I had an ultrasound at 99 dollars.
