I usually check my Yahoo mail first, followed by my hotmail and then my-space. I move on with whatever research I need to do. Once those tasks are completed, it's back to yahoo for my "fix" @yahoo answers.

Usually people started with hotmail but Yahoo has better features. I definitely recommend Yahoo.

Hotmail was launched July 4, 1996.
Yahoo! Mail wasn't launched until October 8, 1997.
(They had their directory earlier though.)
