in my eyes that would just make you shy...although that wouldn't stop me from coming up to you and engaging in a nice conversation to bring you out of your shell.

I would think you were withdrawn and had a hard time talking with other people.
In which case, I'd probably also come up to you and start socializing (because I've been in exactly that same position), because I'd know what it feels like and I'd try to get you taklign and laughing.
Obviously, I wouldn't think you wee retarded. Withdrawn, remote- yes. But then sometimes the most people are the smartest. So you never know.
Anyway, since you sound somewhat like me, I'd try to become freinds with you.
If this is your real life situation, which it probably is, I would suggest not to wait till someone tlkative comes along, but to take a step foward, and don't be afraid to socialize. Just come to a cluster of people or just one person, say "Hi! My name is...." and make some small talk. I'm sure you'll do great!
Good Luck!

No not necessarily. you can be a loner and still be "normal". you can be extremely shy and be 'normal'. Do yourself a favour and stop worrying about what others think or how others perceive you. Humans are the cruelest animals on earth because they will find something in everybody to pick at. Even the "popular" people are nasty to their own group of Friends by picking at each other, they are just so dumb they don't see it or the believe its ok to have your own opinion (even if its hurts when saying it out loud). Humans a weird bunch but that's not to say that being yourself is wrong either. The best thing you can do for your self is be yourself. When you be yourself and then like yourself then you will notice that the nasty opinion of others are not of value to you and that's what matters.

I'd think you were shy in thaqt case I would try talking to you
OR
If that did not work I'd think you just did not want to socialize which makes it a long day for you
OR
Maybe you have some kind of problem and if you lasted very long there I'd get to the bottom of it.

I wouldn't think you're retarded. I'd just think that you're either anti-social or that you just want to focus on your task at hand and not worry about everyone else while doing it.

Hi! I'd think that you were just like me and most likely had a valid reason for your isolation. I'd think you were shy and/or lacking in self-esteem or just had different interests than the others. :P

I probably wouldn't give it a second thought ... much less a first thought. But if I did think about it, I would probably just think you were a loner or shy or just seriously scholarly.

I would think you have social anxiety disorder and could use medication for it. Consult a doctor about how you feel and he will refer you to proper medications. Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, Welbutron, etc...
