I suggest you figure out what you are going to being using the laptop for and how much you have budgeted. If it will only be used an hour or so every few days and you only plan on browsing web pages and doing e-mail an old refurbished laptop for $300 might work fine. If at the other extreme you are a gamer and need a very fast CPU, lots and lots of RAM and a graphics chip then $3000 might be required. If you travel all the time the battery life and size might be the most important consideration.

It depends totallly on your usage, First of all identify your Usage and utility.

If u would use the laptop for browsing the internet, use a few word documents and play movies, music and games of low graphic quality.
Then i would suggest
Any processor (INTEL or AMD) 1.5 GHZ with 512 MB DDR2/DDR RAM, a normal 60 GB HDD.( The battery backup of this config would be good (~2.5 - 4.5 hours))

If you plan to render Images and work on AUTO cad or Photoshop plugins abd if u r a major gamer, then

Go for a Processor (Intel or AMD) > 1.8 GHz with minimum 1GB DDR2/DDR Ram, and 80 GB HDD with a 256 MB Accelerated graphic card. ( But the battery backup of this config would be verl less (~1.5 hours))

for that basic day to day stuff any of the cheaper low end models will work just fine if you want to do more like gaming or video editing you need a faster one or if you want a computer that is "vista ready" go high end.

it depends on what you are going to use it for, the more digital content or games, the higher speed computer you need and the more ram
