I'm going to give you Two answers the second I hope puts a smile on someones face- the first next is true form of this sound, I think.
A #1
Open your hand. Don’t move any finger, bend the second finger down at the knuckle joint. Now, you simply move the finger up and down right there @ the knuckle joint, that joint that connects finger to hand. Poof ! that’s it. you can try other fingers now.
A#2.Perhaps you watch a fine porn flick while your making that sound, maybe you're thinking of a hot chick (or guy-if that's your deal)
you saw that day. Maybe you're in the shower, had a stress-filled day and that one hand clapping in rythm sounds and feels oh so good.
Oh the power of the one handed Rythmic sound. It is really is a "CLAP" of sorts. right?

The whole point of this very old question is that it doesn't have an answer. One hand can't clap, so the sound of one hand clapping isn't silence, it's "null set."
The idea is, by meditating deeply on a question that has no answer, you get one step closer to enlightenment. You let me know if it works for you. I'm going to go see a movie.

These Zen Koan questions are posed to put the mind in a sort of loop, from which you emerge w.o. an answer, but with the ability to focus better on the external environment.
the "rythm" is not part of the original Koan

Half of the sound of both hands plus noise that is normally canceled by opposing wavelengths from the sound of the other hand's clap.

Hmmmm... let me try that.
It pretty much sounds like a two-handed clap only quieter. You really have to close the one hand hard to get the sound, but it is possible.

There is no such sound because clapping involves two hands.
