It may just hurt the sound! What many people do not realize is that the vibratory quality of the wood on a solid body electric guitar DOES affect the sound directly. Why else would the better ones be made of such fine hardwoods as alder, maple, and son on? There is another reason not to put stickers on your guitar. They will reduce the resale value. Who wants a guitar with a bunch of worn and dirty stickers all over it? You would have to remove them, and you'll have glue all over the top. Then how will you get that glue off without damaging the finish?

Great Question!
for an electric guitar, sticker will not change the sound
(you know, don't put them on the strings, the bridge, over the pick-ups)
Are you getting a guitar with a tremolo bridge or fixed bridge?
After years of trems, I really hate their shallow sound, I rec a fixed bridge
Now an acoustic, YES Stickers will MESS up their sound!
Everything seems to mess with the sound of an acoustic
humidity, temperature, longer cables
I use an Ovation, not the greatest guitar sound but the most consistent, the factory piezo PU is very reliable

It really depends where you put the stickers. If you put them on the strings or the pickups, the sound will definitely be affected.
