If you are calling a number a lot and they consider it harrassing, they can dial *57 after you hang up and the call will be traced. They keep a list of dates and times of the calls.
The traced call numbers are released only to the law enforcement office handling their case. I suppose the number is *57 in the whole United States of America.

If you're calling a cell phone, they can still get your number from their itemized bill. I'm with cingular and I can check my bill and it'll show the person's number, city and state as well.
