Marriage, "is a committed relationship between or among individuals, RECOGNIZED by civil authority and/or bound by the religious beliefs of the participants." I think what many gay/lesbian couples want is their union to be recognized, not just by friends and family but by the law as well. If this recognition means that they get the same rights as a heterosexual couple being married, well so be it. Furthermore, in my opinion, I think they should be allowed to have the same rights as a heterosexual married couple. Marriage is not just a union between two people, it comes with rights and privileges and I think that many gay/lesbian couples want the same rights, nothing more and nothing less.

I think that gays want the benefits of having the bonded relationship in a legal tie.
What they don't realize is that it takes more than two people signing a paper to make a real marriage.
Without God's approval and because it's a sin, gay and lesbian people are going against God's will and won't be satisfied in their relationships.
It is the same as for us straight people. If you disobey God then you aren't going to be blessed. Without God in our lives no one can experience true happiness or love.
God is the Creator of love that lasts and only He can do that, so yes I believe that they wish they could have something we have, but they won't get it just by signing on the dotted line!

Some just want to have the rights that go along with being "married" and others want the title and the rights. It's something that people feel very differently about. I'd personally like to have both the title and the rights. I think that only then would it be considered "equal rights".
And by the way... Leo, your an ignorant j e r k. Go walk into traffic, ok? :)

Reality check....why does what someone does in their bedroom have anything to do with their rights????? I believe that one should not have a law to dictate their choice of marriage. Marriage is the union of two people whom love one another; why does marriage have to be between a man and a woman?
I am not talking about Biblical....I am well aware of what the Bible says about this topic...... In today's society, the reality is that many of the younger generation are no longer going to church and that church attendance is way down in all denominations.
Rights of man are given by man......

Gays want the same benefits of public respect for our unions that straight couples have by the same processes of dating, falling in love, and committing to each other exclusively. Marriage is a civil union recognized by most religions, but it is primarily a civil right.
And gays are members of this civilization.

do men and women just want the rights that go with marriage? i don't think so. people are people regardless of their gender preferences and in many cases, people get married because they love each other... at that moment.
