Yeah, I liked them, haven't really listened to them since "1984". Saw them in concert that year in Chicago, one of the last (maybe THE last) concert at the Amipitheatre. Liked all their early albums through 1984, was bummed when David Lee Roth left, but it was about that time I stopped keeping up on new music anyway, I was 26yo at the time.
Nowadays I only listen to Led Zeppelin, and I still love them!

Yes I like Van Halen. I was initially mad at DLR for leaving, but Sammy was an acceptable replacement. Some of their best stuff was done with Sammy, the entire Balance CD, for example. I wasn't a big fan of Van Halen 3. The music was the same, and I dont dislike Gary Cherone, it just wasnt the same. (Though Fire in the Hole does rock.) The weird thing is that I am really not a big fan of either DLR or Sammy's solo stuff. The band is what really rocks. I just wish they all could just check their egos at the door and keep on rocking!

Van Halen was at its best when David Lee Roth was lead, but they rock no matter what! The guitars and lyrics are always thought provoking and full of a message of some kind, while the melody is fun to sing.

VAN HALEN MAKES ME PUKE. it does something that curdles my milk, something similar to eating tofu on a cold floor in an empty house, hearing vial love songs and thinking about the person you loved, well, now actually hate. mix all of that in with a smashed open old pumpkin left to rot in the california sun for two days, and put in some hate, despise, secrets, mental torture and a large unnecessary grudge and you get what van halen does to me

Not anymore!
Today's Van Halen is a mere shadow of their former selves...Their current live act fails miserably in generating the excitement that became a trademark of their Glory Days.
( Saw them a year ago...Waste of Money! )

Yeah, they're great! I liked the Sammy Hagar period the most. Of course its Eddie's fantastic playing and arranging that makes it all work. A lot of people know that Eddie's a great player but he's also a great composer and arranger. I thought that the Balance album was excellent even though For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge got more attention. They're all great.
