Harsh??

Phuk That!! I call for a revolutinon.

It is criminal the way state and federal officials handled that situation YET no judicial reprecution.

People looting in a town that was nothing short of lawless and they get 15 years??

Something is wrong here?

eventually martial law was declared. and regardless what the purpose of looting was for, my point is there is severe injustice in this country when gov't officals get away with looting as well, get away was gross negligence when handling the situation and these people get 15 years prison. I'm not saying don't do jail time but for goodness sake. That is harsh. If the justice system were truly just, it would be applied equally. Discretion of justice is unjust to me.

If they were black and poor it was called looting

If they were white and rich or poor it was called looking for food and supplies

I say they were lucky they got 15 years. If it were a survival situation and people were just obtaining NECESSARY items, you could have a little sympathy, although in that situation they didn't have a right to do even that because there should have been an orderly distribution of emergency supplies (thank your mayor and governor). The fact is though that much of the looting involved stealing of merchandise that had nothing to do with survival...taking advantage of disaster for personal gain, causing yet further loss to some poor store owner. It's amazing how a natural disaster becomes someones fault..and everyones but the ones closest to the problem. The people reelect the mayor who refused to utilize hundreds of school buses standing idle to evacuate citizens. The same people who choose to live year after year in a crime ridden city that is below sea level. And now you want a revolution to further add to the anarchy and lawlessness? You're right, something IS wrong here.

That's right! If the government doesn't do it's job, I say people should be allowed to do whatever they want in a situation like the aftermath of Katrina without any repercussions whatsoever. I mean now look. Crime is worse than it ever was before the hurricane and then it was the murder capital of the U.S. Looting gets 15 years?! I say it's all a Bush conspiracy to take the city over for their summer home. The troops there should have shot on site--to kill .

They stole from a towns that were under a national crisis, and from legitimate business and towns, not to survive but for profit. Did you know that people were caught abusing the free money the government gave to people, such as the 2000 dollar debit cards given out to the victims? Con-men even stayed in peoples houses for free! When the people were nice enough to help them out! (They thought they were victims of the crisis).

BTW wasn't the state under MARTIAL law?

EDIT: Well to have that much time of imprisonment, they must of had a pretty big felony, second degree? What crimes were they prosecuted and convicted of? It would depend on the case, but I don't believe burglary without a weapon is a huge felony, if it is one at all.

I think the cops on the N.O.P.D who looted should get the same exact sentance.

Maybe it's their 10th offense and they were out on parole when they did it.
