Depending on how well your 'present' is going, you will either recall your past for fond memories or summon it to keep you company in your misery. Our past is the only real masure of who we are and how well we are doing / accomplishing. How we fit in. Some of us just move ahead regardless of what we are getting done and who we get to know. Others of us need our past as a common and constant point of reference before we dare to move on. But if we error, we will be prone to repeat. So try not to dwell. Learn from our mistakes and recall our victories and good times.

Heart scars are difficult or eradicate at any age. It sometimes takes years of therapy for healing to take place. Some people never achieve it.
Also, certain personality types are more prone than others to dwell on the past.

because experience is the best teacher and we can draw valuable life lessons from the past. however, you should never allow your past, however bad it was, to define you and make your future choices for you. we are all a work-in-progress and everyday is an opportunity to make better experiences than the previous ones.

Regret can really eat at you. Probably those people have not found a way to live with what happened and let go of the regret, so they carry it around.
Dated a guy like that about 6 years ago. i tried to get him to consider counselling, but he "didn't need it" -- yeah, okay, carry that crap around, that's really helpful! We ended up breaking up anyway.

true, but most people feel there are different choices they could have made or see a point in their life if they had taken a different path, they wouldn't be where they are at today. these people are usually unhappy withhow their life has turned out.
the way I see it is that my past has shaped me into the perso n I am today~~ may not be liked by all, but liked by myself & those that count to me

You are your past. You relive it in your present and will relive it in your future unless you swear today that you won't, but be forewarned that the future is near and humans are always subjected to repeating their past.

People love misery ... pity parties are all the rage. They can't seem to accept their life, so they make it one long string of WOE IS ME events. Dysfunctional . . .

Heredity and the genes' forces make us do that. We can not get away from these two inherent parts of us
