My favorite WWII fighter plane is based upon which one I believe would win in a one-on-one dogfight most often versus any other WWII fighter plane. Some have other reasons for their favorites, such as strategic significance or even just appearance. Because of this I choose the FW190 D-9 or it's next generation follow-on the TA-152H -- hopefully a glitch-free TA-152 since they were shoving them out the door so fast at the end there. Kurt Tank designed fighter planes that were powerful in climb and acceleration, aerodynamic, agile, tough and fast with plenty of heavy-duty firepower. Their pilots loved them. The "T" in TA-152 stands for "Tank" an honor given to no other airplane designer of the Third Reich because of just how impressive the FW190 was. As an American I feel lucky the Germans didn't concentrate their fighter production on just these models but that was a common failing of their weapons production, spreading their efforts and not concentrating on the best models.

JU-87 Stuka.

1 - it looks too cool with the gull wings and dive-bombing whistle attached.
2 - Highest scoring Tank ace OF ANY COUNTRY was Ernest Rudel - flew a Tank busting stuka against the russians(He should be the model for current A-10 pilots)
3 - Terrible as a fighter aircraft, but the ORIGINAL Dive bomber which led to the US developing the "Dauntless" that sank all the Japanese carriers at Midway

The Mk IX or Mk XIV Spitfire for the UK

The F4U-F Corsair for the US

The FW190 Focke Wulf for Germany

But I also really like the DH Mosquito which was used in many different rolls, but oftentimes as a Night Fighter.

Messersm. Bf 109.... 6 of their aces had over 200 kills. One of them, Erich Hartmann, destroyed 352 Russian planes. They flew, and racked up staggeringly high scores over North Africa, France, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, Poland, and, in the end, Germany itself. Two hundred aerial victories each. By comparison, the top U.S. aces of World War Two achieved twenty or more.

The Boeing B-17. It was built in Seattle , 17 a day were built. And the could fly even after being shot up constantly. A true work horse.
