Why are insects atracted to dog poop or anything that is bad smelling?

It is moist and they can lay there eggs in it and eat at the same time. Insects do a dirty job that nothing else wants to but without them we would all be knee deep in crap by now.

It is God's (or Nature's) way of eliminating rot. The larva from the eggs they lay there eat it. They actually don't eat fresh food or flesh. When an animal dies it disappears in short order because of that instead of creating disease. So it ends up being a wonderful contribution. "Flies are our friends". for the same reason you are attracted to the smell of a grilling t-bone. insects associate the smell with food. we smell really good food, we are attracted.

Insects, especially flies are scavengers, and they eat waste, because it is a readily available, and partially digested, making it easier for them to turn into food.

Poop is going to sniff undesirable. as long as this is reliable and the puppy's no longer ingesting it, i would not be demanding. If this is runny, get him checked for worms. If he's ingesting it, then he isn't getting adequate foodstuff and fiber.
