I'm guessing you are referring to the posture support bras and shoulder support. These work by crossing closer to your arms then normal bras with slightly wider bands that don't give as much. These bands press into your shoulders if you round them. These back/shoulder suports are generally non-constricting and serve mostly as a reminder. They cost $20 and up. Over all I believe these are effective when coupled with exercises to help strengthen the appropriate muscles. Keep in mind though that these garments may be visible under some clothing-- much the same as a lacy bra would be. Wearing and undershirt will help with this. I have had no problems with comfort or mobility when wearing these garments.
Suport bras work the same way but as they are only a single garment they are not as obvious under clothing. Also due to the broader range of sizes it is much easier to find one that will not shift or bunch. Keep in mind though you should wash your undergarments, including bras and back supports, after every wearing to remove any sweat or oils that will decrease the life and support of your garment.
There are also those that extend below towards the waist and serve to help keep the back straighter and the stomach taunt. I have not tried these models myself but they work on the same principal.
Corsets can also serve as posture support. Proper corsets with steel boning can also nip in your waist but these are not as comfortable and should really only be worn if you like wearing them and have one made for you to your exact measurments by a proper corset maker (These will run you $300 and up). I happen to like corsets but I would never wear them for anything other then special occasions.
You might also want to look at your shoes as high heels can shift your weight leading to poor posture. Wear lower heels or flats for every day use and save the heels for special occasions.
If you want to work on improving your posture you can do so without support garments. Start by making an effort to have proper posture every time you talk on the phone. Hold it as long as you are on the phone. Gradually increase the activities you will maintain proper posture for... doing dishes, taking a shower, riding the subway, sitting down for dinner etc. Couple this with exercises to help strengthen your muscles.

I haven't tried them but my mother is familiar with them. Back in her day they were called GIRDLES and she HATED them.

The best way to better posture, in my experience is Yoga. My posture is horrible but Yoga has really helped. I even stopped going to the chiropractor.
