Not even having read the link, I would have to say NO.

The death penalty solves nothing. It gives the guilty a short-cut to judgement day and bypasses the hell of prison life. It kills the wrongly-convicted innocent. It brings no closure to the family of the victim, contrary to what many claim.

I had a very dear friend a number of years ago whose son was murdered right before her eyes by someone she knew. There were several other witnesses, all who knew the victim and the actor. There was a wealth of forensic evidence. There was no question of guilt. Although the actor plead not guilty, he apologised to my friend after he was convicted.

During the penalty phase of the trial, my friend plead for the death penalty, saying that it would provide closure for her and the rest of the family. Most of her friends and family plead with her to not take that position. Faced with a lifetime of hell in a TX prison, the actor refused to appeal the conviction or sentence and was executed a couple of years later.

I waited outside the prison for my friend during the execution which she witnessed. When she came out, she broke down and cried for hours. She said that it was the most terrible thing that she had ever seen. There was no closure for her and she felt that since she had pushed for the death penalty so ardently that there would never be any.

Several years finally did provide the closure that she sought. Only time can do that. Much of that was spent as an activist against capital punishment and she still is to this day. I won't mention any names, but I've seen her on the news several times at anti-death penalty rallies and protests in several states. She has also worked with the Innocence Project and has helped in getting several death penalty recipients released from prison as they were truly innocent.

Update: And now having read the link, I would still say NO! Based on what is presented there, this is an extremely shaky case yet so typical of TX justice. Gladly I don't live there any more...

I believe this is a question best left to the Judge and Jury. With what credible information could I ever answer one way or the other?

first of and foremost. sorry for the loss of your friend. i would want him to suffer as much as possible. and killing him won't do that. However having him locked up for the rest of his life not being able to have children and not getting the fulfillment of life would be better then just giving him a lethal injection or by electric chair. again sorry for the loss of your friend
