I don't think he is, especially not in Australia, where he is certainly considered to be a modern great. He has been the spearhead of our attack for the best part of the last 10 years, since the likes of Hughes & McDermott retired. He has awesome statistics, 542 wickets at 21.55 in tests, and 331 at 22.43 in ODI, which places him third on the all time wicket taking list for tests, and 6th for ODI, and even considering the greater number of matches played these days, still makes him one of the best bowlers of all time.
Without a doubt, Glen McGrath WILL be remembered as a great....

Probably because he is still playing. Current players, unless they are the flashy type, eg Flintoff, Pieterson, Warne etc tend not to be mentioned in the same vein as the greats, Willis, Richards, Hadlee until they've finished their playing careers.
No doubt in my mind though, and this as an Englishman, that McGrath is one of the best modern game players in the world. Another who will be sadly missed from the test arena is Steve Waugh.

people wont really consider line and length bowlers. He doesn't have great pace like the greats garner and marshall and it doesn't terrify batsman when he comes on to bowl.
if u could combine mcgraths experience and test match record with brett lees youth, fitness and speed then that would be one hell of a player

To sluttt: Says who? Glenn (two n's please) is the third placed Test wicket taker of all time. Who overlooks him? Not most critics.
To miknave: 703 to 3 is NOT a cricket score. Cricket innings are recorded as runs for wickets (or in Australia, wickets for runs). So you could have a score of "703 for 3", although this is most unlikely as an average innings score rarely tops say 350. Go back to your baseball, mate!

Cuz he's not a flashy star like Brett Lee. He's not a Gilchrist, Tendulkar or Shoaib. He's more steady, does his job as well as he can but doesn't catch people's eye as much. More of a Kumble, Langer type of player. Not suprisingly, it's players like these who win more matches - but go unnoticed cuz they don't hog the attention.

He has an ultra-ordinary life, an ordinary hairstyle, an ordinary family, a humble demeanour etc.......Only loud mouths, showoffs, exhibitionists etc are media darlings.
