That could be possible. I just read an article on cnn today that said that there is a company in Silicon valley that is working on creating an all electric car for production. They claim that their test car can go from 0 to 60 in less than 4 secs. and they are hoping for a range of 250 plus miles between charges. Charges should take less than 3 hours. It still is in the experimental phase but their goal is to do what the big three were unable to do in the 90's.

Not that they are not available even now In fact, some years back here in Delhi the Municipal Corporation operated a regular electric bus service. However, it did not become much popular on account of limited speed. But surely with t rials and errors it should not be too difficult to make them a reality in a couple of years or thereabout . The depleting stocks of fuel oils together with the uncertain atmosphere in the Middle East leading to rising and rising and rising prices of fuel oils will serve as a great push in this direction.

actually I was at a meeting with Ford executives the other day... they said that hybrids will be very common in the next few years... (at least 35% of drivers will own hybrids)... no mention of all-electric cars at all...
