Ok, I'll admit I wasn't around during the 60s, 70s, or even 80s for football. But I have recently noticed the the players are becoming poorer and poorer at team qualities and sportsmanship. I've seen players dive after a challenge, vry for a little bit, then whine at the referee. Now some of you may say this is uncommon, but people like this are ruining the beautiful game. Even sometimes when the defender does kick the opponents feet (and it's clearlt a fowel), the player will over-exagerate by rolling on the grass and crying like a little baby. And sometimes the player clearlt sees the defenders foot, but wants the call for him, instead of moving and risking possesion of the ball. And other times the player will have a defender slide in and it hits his feet and he falls, although if he tried he could keep his balance. Players like this should be booed even by their own fans. Am I the only one that thinks football is going down a dark road? Please comment :)

Oh, by the way "m T" I do play football and have been an avid fan for quite a while. I know footballers do get fouled alot, but I am also saying there is an increase in poor disciplinary records for many teams. More players are diving, and I do know about the "deliberate dive" call, however sometimes the referee and his assistants have a bad angle on the ball and call it a foul when it clearly was a dive. I never said all calls by the ref are really dives or all players are poor sports. There are players that are trying their best to respective to theselves, their oppenents, and the fans be playing fair.

Football is as popular as ever, but I know what you mean. The team factor is being overshadowed by superstars with superstar egos. Take TO for example, great player but hasnt won anything. That kind of stuff doesnt help teams win.

there is a FIFA rule that if the ref thinks a player is pretending to fall, a yellow card will be issued. Yellow cards have been issued to goalkeepers for delay of game.
Too many people who have never played on the pitch ask these stupid questions about players falling and pretending to fall. This is a rough sport, where the feet are used to control the ball while running, also used to pass the ball to a teammate, while tryingj to get away from opponents who are trying to bump, shove, trip, kick, tap, or whatever else, all the while trying to stay in balance and keep your momentum.
People who say soccer players are pretending to fall clearly show their ignorance of just how difficult this game is, and cannot appreciate the skill level world cuppers have to be able to play at 100%, you become susceptible to all the pitfalls of the game. Its like racecar driving....very little room for error, one false move, and crash.....

ive played for 25 years and agree that players today are little more than highly paid prima-donas. however, we as spectators still pay to see someone showboat or do something great. most european players arnt used to a physical game like we play in the states. im not sure when the tide of cry babies started but if you really like the game go watch college, high school, or club teams. the referees dont have to follow the laws laid down by FIFA

No I understand you. In my high school district semifinals, the opposing team (who eventually won districts) best player dived after I had stolen it from him. They called a foul on me and he scored the game winning goal off the free kick. Yeah, that sucked, we all felt cheated. Then he makes 1st team all state, I guess that is the road the game is taking, its sad.
