DDR ram uses 184 pins or 92 pins on each side.

DDR 2 ram uses 240 pins or 120 pins on each side.
DDR2-533 and DDR-400 cost almost the same. If you had problems with your DDR2 you learnt a valuable lesson, buy brand names wether it's value or performance ram. My reccommendation is Corsair Value Select, excellent performance at a competitive price, alternativly Transcend, Kingston, Infinion or Patriot are also good. I am not verly fond of hynix, pqi. and kingmax.

If your motherboard has a set of DDR 400 slots and a Set of DDR2 slots then you can use DDR400 on that board however you can't use DDR and DDR2 together.

No DDR2 Memory cannot be replaced with DRR Ram as they pins do not match the slot, more over, AMD Processors do not support DDR2Rams as yet, Intel Processors Support DDR2 Ram... The motherboard should also support the DDR2 RAM.. ,
SO both Processor and the motherboard should be compatible for a change to DDR2 RAM. :-)

Some motherboards can support both, yet it will operate at a slower speed. Your going to have to call the manufacturer of your motherboard and ask them if it supports both.

Depends on the board. However, it's gonna be a LOT slower, so I wouldn't do it.
