Your country seems to be very divided between NeoCons and liberals and Christians vs Atheists, PC and other stuff. Politically I seem to fall on the left and when it comes to God and stuff I am more to the right. Is there a Christian Left or Christian Liberals in the USA or only here outside of the USA. Bill Clinton and MLK are a couple of Christian Liberals.

If you read the Bible, the New Testament more precisely, and read the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes most accurately, you will find the Jesus spoke to the multitudes that today most definitely are issues that are being attended to by Liberals. Jesus address helping the poor more than anyother subject in the Bible. He usually talk about the rich as having a very hard time getting into heaven. Now look at the conrvatives vs. the liberals... The rich are associated usually with conservative and the poor and sinful are usually associated with the liberals. There are millions of libral Christians in the United States, only the conservatives think they are religious though. Somewhat like the Pharisees in the Bible. Always taughting how good and holy they are and how sinful the liberals and Democrates are. Well, Jesus hung out with those sinners and poor people. The consevaTARDs are going to have a real shock when they get up to the pearly gates. Most likely you are on the left-center of the American political spectrum.

Honestly I don't think you can possibly be a Christian Liberal. Liberals generally agree with abortion, homosexuality, gay marriage, and they argue that you can't pray in school, and they don't want any mention of God in the pledge, on money, in schools, or in public places such as on buildings. They even go as far as not calling a Christmas tree a "Chirstmas tree" but it has the name Christ in it and they don't follow that religion. It doesn't seem that Liberals are that tolerant does it? I'm not sure about what all topics you fall on the left with, but it does seem to me that you are more a Democrat, not a Liberal Democrat. There are plain Democrats out there that only want a larger government but still believe in Christianity and it's teachings and there isn't anything wrong with that. As far as I'm concerned being any kind of extremist, whether it be right or left, is bad. You'd do more good to call yourself a Moderate. MLK wasn't a bad guy, but I wouldn't use Bill Clinton as an example.

I honestly don't see how someone could really be a Christian and a liberal. I mean, you can be a Christian and believe some of the liberal positions, like welfare or whatever (the Catholics are strong believers in welfare), but in truth, liberalism goes against a lot of what Christians believe. Most liberals believe in abortion. Most liberals argue against the celebration of Christmas in any public place. Many liberals want all mention of God removed from the pledge, the currency, etc. Most liberals don't believe in the importance of the family unit.

It is possible to be Christian and a democrat, but that probably means you are more of a conservative democrat and maybe lean to the left on fiscal or foreign policy issues. I really can't see how someone could honestly be a Christian liberal.

As a side note, I think it's interesting that when Ann Coulter wrote a book called: Godless: The Church of Liberalism, liberals didn't object in any way to being called godless, but they raised holy hell over her take on the 9/11 widows from New Jersey. Something to think about.

Maybe this will shed some light on the subject. I am a christian liberal, I do believe in tolarance, something the the far right does not. I also belive in paying a fair amout of taxes. It is only the conservatives that has so much that they want more. Here is a definition of liberal:

Liberalism is an ideology, philosophy, and political tradition that holds liberty as the primary political value.[1] Broadly speaking, liberalism seeks a society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, especially of government and religion, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of minorities are guaranteed. In modern society, liberals favour a liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law and an equal opportunity to succeed[2]. Liberalism rejected many foundational assumptions which dominated most earlier theories of government, such as the Divine Right of Kings, hereditary status, and established religion. Fundamental human rights that all liberals support include the right to life, liberty, and property. In many countries, "modern" liberalism differs from classical liberalism by asserting that government provision of some minimal level of material well-being takes priority over freedom from taxation. Liberalism has its roots in the Western Enlightenment, but the term now encompasses a diversity of political thought, with adherents spanning a large part of the political spectrum, from left to right. In the context of economics, the term "liberalism" refers to economic liberalism, which is associated with the political ideology of liberalism itself.

Politics and religion are probably the most confusing subjects in the entire world!
I don't know if this is much of an answer but I certainly don't think you are alone in being kind of "on the fence'.
I have taken many tests and had many discussions that prove me to be about as far left as any liberal that ever lived.
However, I also have many, many conservative views that I feel strongly about.
I think America is a great country because of people like us who don't enforce every single "party" view on everyone because they just can't.
Am I making a bit of sense? Come to think of it...do politics?
Best Wishes and I hope you find your way and feel comfortable with your choices,
Sarah

Try taking this anonymous online test. It was specially created by political scientists to create a classification system for political ideologies. It's really aweasome and fun!

http://www.politicalcompass.org/questionnaire.php

Myself, I'm a radical left libertarian, according to the test. If I recall correctly, I scored -9.5 on the economic axis, and -8.2 on the personal freedoms axis. I define myself as a "democratic socialist", so I guess the compass' definition is pretty close.

As you will discover with the test, religion has nothing to do with political beliefs. You can be a christian and still be an anarchist, socialist, libertarian, fascist, etc.
The media tries to form stupid labels around us, such as "liberal" or "conservative", or in the case of my country, "radical" or "peronist", which are nothing more than ways of limiting our thinking.
You do not have to conform to these labels that society creates. Each of us can have his own political beliefs, which are very complex, and cannot be categorized in a mere "a or b" axis.
Calling yourself a "liberal" or a "conservative" (damn ambiguous terms!) without actually questioning your beliefs issue-by-issue, is nothing more than sheep mentality.

I know, it's extremely frustrating. The way I believe I would think being Christian would mean being liberal, but that doesn't seem to be the case...
It's sad.
I don't have any answers for you, I can just tell you that you're not alone, and be proud that you don't fit in any box!

(I just checked out some of your other questions. Go Canada! Save some room up there for me, because if things keep going the way they are I may have to join you!)

The difference is Liberals accept all religions and don't discriminate, Republicans seem to hate those who don't believe in Christianity. Liberals aren't atheists, they just tolerate more than just one religion. That right there should be enough for you to decide.

I am not on the left right or the middle, if people keep listening to the sheep hearders in the Rep and Dem party then we would vote for that party just because we register that way (seems like most of america votes not for the person but solely for their political affiliation. this is why we are so sick of government, if people voted based on facts not myths and rhetoric then this so called democracy may one day work.

It's not as simple as right and left, liberal and conservative. You can be on the left on one issue and the right on another, as I believe most people are. For instance, I believe in lower taxes and limited government (right), but also that marijuana should be legal, at the very least for medicinal purposes (left, and no, I don't use it). Every person is a different individual, and sees issues and the world in a different way.
