I do use them, but I've encountered some major problems.
1). Yup, you didn't bag the item, even though you did. What's up with that?
2). You buy produce and you can have a hassle trying to find the price and weight.
3). Phone cards. You can't do it. You have to get someone to come over and punch a code and several times the workers had a really tough time getting the code to accept.
4). Other customers. Hey, other people use the check out, so be polite and wait. Just because it's self check out doesn't mean no one else is in front of you, and you can run up and check out.
5). Finally, you may have cost someone a job. One of my friends is a clerk and she points out that as more people use self-checkout, get used to the fact that you will see less clerks than you did before. You know all those closed check-out lines we all hate....?!

I would much rather do the self checkout because it does save time even though sometimes it is a problem with the machine. I think it depends on the machine in the store. I have had pretty good success with them. Except in Texas, they have so much people using them things that well it still took forever.

I'm split. Yes, they do need help and they save time, but you can't buy Gift Cards or iTunes cards or and cards like that there. But it's also good practice for young people for if they become cashiers. But there is always a line for the ones in Texas. It's also fun!

Yeah. I have found the self checkouts to be friendlier than most of the human cashiers.

I love self checkouts! They do have problems sometimes, but they are more fun than regular checkouts.

Love 'em. This way I don't have to deal with some dumbass that doesn't want to be there.
As far as the minor problems you have while using them, if you remember it weighs everything you put on it, and knows how much it is supposed to weigh, and take your time putting krap in your bags, it should go smoother.
