Shortest flight ORD to Edinburgh is 9 hrs, 30 min, thru Manchester. Transfer in London and its around 10:30.
Average flight is between 10 and 11 hrs.
Greenwich Mean Time is 6 hours ahead of Central Time.
If you leave late afternoon from Chicago, you'll get into Scotland mid-morning.

I saved a little money and added three extra hours by flying to Glasgow with a plane change in Philadelphia. Then I took the train to Edinburgh. I left Chicago at 2:00 p.m. and arrived in Glasgow the next morning. I was in Edinburgh before lunch and I had already seen some of the country. And you do lose 6 hours.

I have been to both cities and they are both very cool in their own ways. I would guess about an eight hour flight and going to Edinburgh you would advance your clock six hours
