This is a little bit hard to answer, since you give very little info about your system... That said, check the following:

1) Verify that you have internet connectivity... Usually, the command "ipconfig" works on most systems to indicate that you have a valid ip address, net mask, and gateway...
2) Verify that your DNS settings are correct... These are supplied by your ISP when you log on to the internet, and are necessary to translate the internet names (like mail.yahoo.com) to an actual IP address (like 209.73.177.115)
3) Verify that you can access the mail server via a "ping" or "tracert" command... just enter "ping xxx" or "tracert xxx" where xxx is your server's name and verify that you can get to it via the internet.
4) Verify the port settings... If you are using POP3 protocol this is USUALLY port 110, but SOME ISP's use alternate ports, or require higher security levels,,, Verify what your ISP reuqires, and
5) Make certain that all the settings in your email client software are correct... A simple typo here can bollux up the whole shebang! Spelling DOES count, and there is no spell checker to help! If you are at all uncertain, get another pair of eyes to proofread the data for you to verify accuracy...

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Sounds like a Microsoft problem, Microsoft is well known for getting itself stuck in a loop, after it has been to a site, sometimes when you try to go back, Windows believes it has already been there, and will not take you again. Re-boot your system, it will work. You can say "Thank you Mr. Gates for this Microsoft Error" that they have never fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if your whole internet isn't working then your internet connection is lost. the network adaptor is what connect the internet to your comp., so maybe it's not plugged in.
