Yes, America is still losing the war on drugs after spending billions to supposedly do the opposite. People get longer prison sentences for drugs than for murder. Where's the justice in that? The US would be better off to legalize drugs and tax them.
People will continue to do drugs whether legal or not. Maybe if drugs were legalized, they would lose some of their appeal.

I mostly agree. The policy seems, in many instances, to be doing more harm than the drugs themselves. I'm reminded of a "schism" in our local public library system.

The library has an entire section dedicated to donated paperbacks. A group of volunteers tabulated the cost of tracking these donated items: assigning them tracking numbers, checking them in and out (done electronically, but still a cost), collecting fines for overdue, damaged, or lost books, and so on. The study group found that the cost of tracking exceeded the funds generated, even though the "lost book fee" was set at the cover price, plus a $5 processing fee. (Recall, these books cost the library $0.00 to acquire.)

In a test program, the "paperback library" went to the honor system. Of course, the library saved money. And the volume of donation is such that the shelves remain well filled.

However, a group has formed supporting a return to the more costly system. Their stance is that allowing people to "steal" or damage library materials without consequence is "sending the wrong message" and must be stopped, even though it means diverting funds from programs like new book aquisitions.

This is a basic philosophical difference and I don't see any easy way to reconcile the two camps.

In a experience sure, because there is not any genuine thanks to irradicate drugs from the country totally. notwithstanding so long because the objective isn't to rid the country of each drug (noticeably no longer accessible) yet as a replace to diminish the provision of them and to regulate their distrabution, then no it isn't a waste. little ones die playing in those ball pits in McDonalds and Burger King because they dig slightly too deep and get a syringe imbedded of their skin that became used for heroine injection. Are we going about the Drug conflict in a achievable way? NO. yet drugs are unlawful and are that way for a reason. human beings commit crimes each day for the sake of drugs, in order to furnish the decision for, locate the money for the product, and what no longer. human beings on drugs kill their kinfolk for money to feed their habit. might want to we as a rustic condone that? i imagine no longer.
