Nothing at all as long as they're doing it in the privacy of their bedroom. Masturbation is a normal thing in my opinion, and making a big deal about it will not only humiliate your child, but will make them think that it's wrong or dirty. Now, if you catch him or her doing it in the living room or something, embarass the crap out of them. Otherwise, don't mention it-it'll just freak your kid out, and they'll feel guilty and ashamed.

you should talk to them about it.. make sure they know it is normal, but that it is something they should do alone and on their own time... In their bedroom or in the bathroom. It will be embarrassing for both of you, but that way you know you addressed it, and your kid knows everybody else does the same thing. Just think of it as a trail run for the sex talk, a few years down the road.

I'd apologise as if I had walked in on someone changing clothes. If I suspected it, I'd ignore it. Masturbation is natural and healthy. Making an issue out of it would only embarrass the kid and give him/her the impression that sexuality is "wrong" or "dirty."

I would not make a big deal out of it. It's something personal and completely normal. In fact as a show of respect I would probably apologize for walking in unannounced or if it was done in a place that wasn't acceptable, I would easily mention that there are times and places for things done in private.

It depends on a lot of things. If you have religious or any other kind of objections to it this would probably be a good time to tell him/her about those objections, and explain why you have them. If you don't have any objections to him/her doing it I'd just let it go.
I personally would have objections and would probably have a quick birds & bees talk with him/her if I hadn't already, and explain why I think that what s/he did was wrong. I won't go into detail on that part (why I think it is wrong) unless you ask because I don't want to start any debates. :)

It would initially shocked me to no end if I "caught my son in the act." I would certainly have "the talk" again & sign him up for a sex education class...As far as the smell, I would have him disinfect his entire room & have all the sheets, etc cleaned immediately and pray it's just an expertimental phase...

Probably nothing. I might be a little weirded out, but there wouldn't be anything I could do to keep my kid from touching his/herself.

Ick. If it is your dad and not you then there is no problem. Yes change clothes and wash them. and wash your hands and change sheets if anything got on them. Use air fresheners too.
