I am sure make-up lighting and digtial enhancement has something to do with it. He has the money to pay for top of the line treatment.

the use of makeup, lighting,or a special camera lens may make him appear better in the movies

Like you said they disguise his ugly face with make-up!

actually i was at the world premiere for pirates of the caribbean 2 and i saw him there and i have to say he looks really good (and i mean REALLY GOOD) in real life..yep

i guess that they put tons and tons of makeup on him and without the makeup he looks like crap.
