I'm 15 and I have dial-up (yea, I know, its slow). And I've been asking my dad for 2 years to get DSL. He says he doesn't want to. I e-mail him about why its better, but he still won't get it. What can I say to him so he will get it?

Take him to the library , I am sure the computers there are on the net and they have Dsl show your dad how lightning fast it is to get to things and ask him how fast it would take him on the dial up modem if he does a lot of work or surfing it is a must point that out to him and tell him that you have a 90% better rate of remaining on the Internet during a thunder storm outside if you are on line with out being knocked off by lightning unless it hits the computer (but that is very far and in between) a good power strip or power spike or lightning arrest or will take care of that if it did hit Verizon provides dsl or most phone company's and if you package the phone and dsl together and TV maybe it might be cheaper then all three of them put together from different company's like it is now most phone company's can provide all three services at a good price! I did that and I pay a lot less on the monthly bills for TV, Phone The Internet is higher but the money saved on the other two services makes up for that.
and you can always sign up for a month if you do not like it then you can cancel and go back like you are now.

but I am hopping you can convince him onto Dsl
it is like day and night Dsl is very addictive cause of it's speed and alway on and it reconnects to the line automatic if it connection is broken generally with in a second or less

once I got Dsl I never wanted to go back

Here's the answer:

I ran into a similar problem with my parents. I took on small jobs around the house and said I would trade for it. If I did a certain amount of chores, then we could get it.
My dad didn't go for it. I got a job. Since DSL is only 15 bucks a month now, at maximum, it's not that much to pay for yourself. Also, if you prove to him that you can do school work faster and give him incentive by telling him that you will improve your grades, you will probably get a lot further with your arguement to get DSL.

Good Luck!

talk to your dad about the benifits of dsl and how it will help you with your school work (book reports ..etc..) and tell him it wont tie up the phone line anymore. It costs pretty much the same as getting a second line anyway..
Also give him prices in your area for dsl and find the best deal.. that usually helps tell him if he doesnt see a difference then he can take it off but asure him he'll love it.

Instead of trying to so hard to find ways to "make" your father get DSL, why not be happy with the fact that you have a computer and the internet at all and count yourself lucky?

Show him the costs for DSL as compared to what he is paying now. I switched and saved $15 per month.

Sometimes kids don't get it..parents have the right to make their own choices and stick by them.
Wait till you have your own income and then you can pay for the extras you want in life.

Maybe he does not see a need for DSL and is happy with dial up.....Like I said...its his choice not yours to make, so respect his decision...

Tell him you want a cable connection which is more expensive and then after a while of bugging him tell him you will settle for DSL.

Depends on where you are.
AT&T/SBC DSL Internet service now costs only $12.99 per month.
COMPARE this cost with your dial-up service.
Present cost study to your dad.
DSL is now almost as CHEAP as dial-up, but with tremendously-high speed.
GOOD LUCK!

offer to pay for it yourself - then actually write the check yourself for the DSL service. Once he sees that you are paying for it, you can get him hooked on it, and after a while, make arrangements to have him pay for it.
