Where to see fireworks in the area

If you're looking for a good Fourth of July fireworks display (or perhaps a few others on July 2 and 3), the following is a list of colorful alternatives. As in past years, there are only a few big displays in or around Palo Alto. So, we've included some others a little further afield.

A "Fireworks Spectacular" concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Frost Amphitheatre on the Stanford University campus. The program includes music by the Midsummer Mozart Orchestra with a fireworks display following Handel's "Suite from the Royal Fireworks." Gates open at 6 p.m. for picnicking. Ticket prices are $27 and $24, and children ages 15 and under are half price. For more information, call 725-ARTS.

The San Jose Giants offer two chances to catch fireworks, on July 2 and 3, when they take on the Modesto A's at 6:30 p.m. both nights at San Jose Municipal Stadium. Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $4 children under 10 and seniors. For more information, call (408) 297-1435.

The San Francisco Giants play the Colorado Rockies, with a fireworks display to follow, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Candlestick Park. Tickets are $13.50 and $8.50. (The $8.50 tickets are recommended for better firework views.) For more information, call (408) 998-2277.

The San Francisco Symphony gives its annual music-and-fireworks performance at Mountain View's Shoreline Amphitheatre on July 4. The concert, which features Pops-style American classics by composers such as Ives, Copland and Sousa, starts at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $27.50 and $20. For tickets, call (408) 998-BASS.

Fireworks will be shot off at Whipple Avenue at Highway 101 in Redwood City starting at 9:30 p.m. on July 4. For more information, call 482-5040.

Downtown San Jose is expected to be packed with viewers--an estimated 150,000--for a 9:30 p.m. fireworks display at Guadalupe River Park. For more information, call (408) 534-4414.

The Fourth of July Waterfront Festival will be held at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco with fireworks starting at 9 p.m. For more information call 777-8498.

Paramount's Great America theme park in Santa Clara will host two nighttime firework displays on July 4. There also will be a laser/pyrotechnic program, shown nightly, at the park's amphitheater on July 4-7. Both the fireworks and laser shows are included in the price of admission, which is $28.95 ages 7-60, $18.95 ages 61 and over, $15.95 ages 3-6 and free for those under 2. For more information, call (408) 988-1776.

By far---District of Columbia is by far the best place to celebrate the Fourth of July. It is filled with beautiful fireworks.
The DC area knows how to celebrate and it will leave you with wonderful memories for sure. No matter where you go to celebrate, be careful and enjoy yourself.

The only fallback - is the traffic when it comes to getting out of there. But I found out last year that if you catch the subway in, there will be no problem getting out. Park at Springfield station and catch the subway in. You will get out much quicker.

This is from personal experience but if it is authenticity that you desire, then Philadelphia in my opinion is the place to visit. Philly, as anyone who knows American History, is where our country got established. Washington DC is a close 2nd.

My guess would be Washington DC, although Vegas might be cool (but very crowded.)
