It depends on the sites you surf, and what you do there. This site can *provoke* you to think, if you really consider your answers. If you simply toss off a smart-alecky answer, say "No, I don't know the answer, thanks for the 2 points" (not that any of them are written or spelled that coherently), you will lose the ability to think.
Your mind as well as your body requires exercise. When you surf, visit sites where you can learn something, or sites that force you to think. And don't just goof around there. *You* are the only one who can make sure your mind or your body get the exercise they need. No one else can do it for you.
(Note that when I say "you", I intend the general 'you', the reader, not necessarily the person who asked the question. *Each* person is responsible for themselves; each person must combat the loss of mental ability themselves, or not. Each person will reap the advantages, or suffer the consequences. So, when you read this, *you* is directed at *you*.)

Net surfing is like going to the library. The choices are so many that they can be overwhelming unless you know what you want. Like going shopping, having a list helps, (and not being too hungry and having enough money to buy what you want) so you know where you want to go in the store, instead of just perusing each aisle to see if you might like something. So 'to combat' the danger, know what you want out of life and out of the internet, and how much time you can afford to spend in 'the web library'. As they say, 'have a life', that is other things to do that are important to you, especially 'relationships'. Internet relationships are too often anonymous and superficial if you are lucky or dangerous if an unscrupulous person knows what they want, and seek it from unsuspecting victims on the internet highway. We know how to act on the street usually, but the rules aren't as clear for net surfing. So knowledge and your own goals protect you, and seeking advice if you are not sure about something. So I don't think it is 'evil' as such, but only as we use it. We are still the 'masters' of how we use it unless we lose sight of that.

I don't what kind of sites you visit (besides yahoo answers, of course), but try to balance mindless sites that shut off your brain (and caused your complaint) with intellectual sites. Your brain has no choice but to be active when you are learning something new, or debating on a topic.

Sure, read a good book, forget television, that is just as bad.
Thankfully we have great libraries all around us. Try one, great places to be.
